10 Things You MUST Know About Relationships

Life has a way of answering questions you didn’t even ask. As I reflect upon my adult life so far, I find this to be especially true when it comes to relationships. From being the recipient and the perpetrator of heartbreak, to cyclically selecting the wrong type, to over expectation, to self-doubt, to romantic bliss… the list is seemingly endless on the ways I have grown in my understanding of relationship dynamics.

You’re Not Rejected – You’re Redirected : Steve Maraboli

You’re Not Rejected – You’re Redirected

We often have a diluted sense of self; we do not see the magnitude of the greatness inside of us. As a result, most people live within the parameters of the lowest part of their life; they dwell in the basement of their capability.

Fairytale Relationships

I don’t mind when people tell me that my relationship ideals are a fairytale.

If it is a fairytale to be loved, to be respected, to have passion, a moving and active love — if that is fairytale, then yes. If mutual respect, love, lust and friendship is a fairytale, then of course! I want to be in love with you, in lust with you, in like with you… it’s a multidimensional world why would I want a one-dimensional relationship?

A Funeral for Past Relationships

We’ve all been there. Engulfed in the pain of a dead relationship.

The people around us tell us to move on, but how? We feel we need closure and we tend to make the mistake of waiting to get it from someone else. It rarely happens. So instead of closure, we are left with pain, sadness, anger, confusion… wounds that unless dealt with will become emotional scars that will later be described as “baggage”.

Relationships: “Why are you so full of $hi!t?”

Reflections from an airport… I’m here an hour and a half early for my flight back to NY, so I’m sitting here at my gate watching all the people walk by. It’s amazing the things you can pick up by people watching. You can almost feel the stress on some while you can’t help but smile at the happiness of others.

The Essence of Beauty - Steve Maraboli

The Essence of Beauty

The Journey’s Baggage

I am a people watcher and I travel a lot. At times, this makes for entertainment, aggravation, and even observational learning. On one particular occasion, I was coming back to New York from a business trip out west. The plane landed and I couldn’t wait to get to my car and go home. As I walked through the airport like a man on a mission, breezing past baggage claim, I couldn’t help but hear the excited cheers of young kids.

Your History-Your Destiny

Your History – Your Destiny

So many of us get caught up in the past: past issues, past relationships, past mistakes, etc… We tend to give away our thoughts and energy of today to days and events that no longer exist. An unfortunate reality of this type of thinking is that we tend to lose sight of our true power and purpose. And we lose sight of the truth that we are free to change – to refine, improve, or enhance ourselves at any moment.

The Difference Between Bravery and Courage

I learned many priceless lessons during my time serving in the military. And while many of those lessons were delivered through serious situations, there are some that were delivered with humor. The lesson in the difference between bravery and courage is one of them.

Empty Your Cup

One of my favorite stories concerns famed martial artist, Bruce Lee, and his desire to be trained by a local Master. At the time, Bruce had extensive fight experience and a background in martial arts training. He approached the Master, and after making the customary bows, asked him to be his teacher.

Behavior Speaks | Steve Maraboli

The Observer Test

What would someone watching think?

Think about what your actions tell the people around you. Based on your behavior, would the people around you be surprised to hear about your goals and dreams? A person’s behavior has always been a more effective and convincing communicator than their words.
