You Are More Than What You Have

Nothing like some humor to remind us that language matters. The words we repeatedly use about ourselves eventually become the lens through which we see ourselves.

There is a difference between saying, “I have something I want to change,” and saying, “This thing is what I am.” One leaves room for growth. The other can become a prison.

And in some ways a mental prison is worse than prison, because at least in prison you can SEE the bars… In a mental prison, you think you’re free.

So, while this post may have made you giggle, please remember that your mind is SO POWERFUL… How you speak to yourself is SO POWERFUL… We have a strange habit of turning things we have into things we are. So be careful what you attach to the words “I am.”

Your body is part of your story, but it is not the whole story.

Your struggles are part of your story, but they are not the whole story.

You are the person living inside all of it… thinking, loving, learning, failing, laughing, rebuilding, and becoming. 

“I am”… Those two words deserve more respect than we sometimes give them.
