The Difference Between Bravery and Courage

I learned many priceless lessons during my time serving in the military. And while many of those lessons were delivered through serious situations, there are some that were delivered with humor. The lesson in the difference between bravery and courage is one of them.

When Things Get Cold

When serving in the United States Air Force I got to see some beautiful places and experience a myriad of different people and climates. One of these climates was right here in the U.S.A.; North Dakota.

Get the Peanut Butter

Millions upon millions of books have been sold in the marketing frenzy that fooled people into believing there was a secret way of “thinking” yourself into success. Millions of books sold, but how many of those people actually attracted and realized their new fortunes by simply “intending?” While it can be spiritually and emotionally intoxicating to think so, free-yourself from the ineffective belief that your intent alone can create material results. Embrace your spirituality, but don’t turn your back on your humanity. Apply reason and rationality to the ideas marketing companies try to sell you. Remember, they are targeting you for an emotional response. Emotional responses get you to buy their products. Think before you act. The material world works around material laws; not mystical ones. For example, let’s say you’re making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. You have the bread, the jelly, and when you go to the cupboard to get the peanut butter, you find that you have none. What will get you peanut butter? Will prayer alone do it? Will meditation alone do it? Will putting together a vision board do it? Will repeating affirmations do it? Of course not! While all of those things are

Know Where You Are Going

I’m often asked what the “secret” to my success is. My answer is that I don’t have a secret; I have a method. I set a goal that I treat as a destination and I create a plan that I treat as a map. With my destination and map complete, I stay committed to the journey I have set. There is no secret to success. There is a simple formula; journey in the direction of your dreams and goals and you will experience success. It is also no secret that along that journey there will be countless temptations to stray, detour, and stop. The challenge is in being committed enough to your vision to let nothing stand in your way. Most people fall short. Not because they don’t know a “secret” to success, but because they know what they want but haven’t mapped out the way to get there and haven’t accepted the price of commitment. If you are ready for a change and if you are ready to start living the life you have always dreamed of, determine your destination and start moving. If you want to live the full beauty of your dream, be willing to pay the

The People on Your Board

Sometimes we don’t realize that we allow certain people access and influence in areas of our lives that they aren’t actually qualified for. As we escalate our success and expand the depth of our personal and professional potentiality, it becomes vital to examine the people we allow into our inner-circle of influence. Look at the corporate model: Corporations have a board that consists of individuals who specialize in different fields and lend their expertise accordingly. The purpose of this board system is to ensure that a business can maximize its potentiality in each field of its endeavors. I understand that I am not a corporation, but I have built and successfully run several of them. I find this model of compartmentalized expertise to be highly efficient and effective. When we need marketing, we have a team for that. When we need accounting, we have a team for that. When we need graphic design, we have a team for that… you get the point. I wouldn’t ask the accountant for advice on graphic design. This “board” system, when run correctly, has helped many businesses and organizations maximize their potential. In my personal life I am blessed to have many friends. This

Your Defining Moment

You would not be here today if yesterday was your defining moment. Don’t let life trick you into the impossible task of fixing a day that has already passed. Think of how much time has been lost and how much energy has been wasted in this unfruitful way of living. Yesterday was not your defining moment. The calendar moved forward; why not you? This new day offers you the sustenance you need to proceed on your life’s expedition. Yesterday’s sustenance has spoiled; the nutrition of yesterday has become the poison of today. Let it go. Be fueled by the opportunities of today. Do not be passive in your life. Be courageous in driving forward in this journey of life. I know people will try to push you back. I know life will challenge you to find refuge in the past. I know the present induces fear. Do not be fooled into backwards living. Be courageous enough to keep moving forward. Let yesterday be what it is; a reference point. It is not a reflection of where you’re going, it’s a reflection of where you were. Drive forward! Think of your car, its purpose, and how it’s designed. The purpose of
