Kindness Doesn’t Require Access

It’s funny… but there’s some depth behind this humor.

There’s a strange idea floating around that being kind means being endlessly available, endlessly patient, endlessly forgiving, and endlessly willing to tolerate things that drain you.

It doesn’t. Look, I’m a nice person, but I’m not here to take your sh*t. 

Kindness is not the absence of boundaries.

Sometimes kindness is saying no without cruelty. Sometimes it is leaving without creating a scene. Sometimes it is refusing to participate in someone else’s chaos while still refusing to become cruel yourself.

You can wish someone well and still wish them far away from you. You can care about a person and still recognize that close proximity is no longer healthy. You can choose peace without needing revenge, explanation, or one final argument.

Remember, either you set the boundary or they will. 

Be kind… and have boundaries.
